The 2014 NFL fantasy season is nearing its end with one last weekend for owners to cash in on FanDuel. As many fantasy owners did last week for the wild card round of the 2014 playoffs. This week the lineup of games includes a few of the NFL’s top quarterbacks including Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.
Along with those four quarterbacks you have Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton and Tony Romo to build your roster with. Flacco has been brilliant over the past few seasons in the postseason including failing to throw an interception in his last five playoff games.
The down side to building a fantasy roster with a shortage of NFL games is finding that one key player that can put you over the top. Last week we saw Crockett Gilmore for the Baltimore Ravens pull in a big touchdown catch. Then you had Terrance Williams in Dallas pull in two big touchdown catches.
Turn the clocks ahead to the divisional round of the playoffs and here are some of the key fantasy plays we like.
Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts ($9,600): Luck fills out the top quarterback this week after taking a look at all eight players in action. The Colts quarterback completed 35 of 53 for 370 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions to open the season up against the Denver Broncos.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers ($9,700): Rodgers is the only other quarterback I am high on this weekend with concerns over his health. That being said the former NFL MVP has the weapons to pick apart the Cowboys secondary. We recommend monitoring the game time weather including the low temperature.
Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots ($7,900): The Patriots are in a very familiar situation taking on a Ravens team that has come to Foxboro and beat them in the playoffs two times over the past five seasons. This time around the key to a Patriots victory will be the team’s star tight end who should get some votes for the league MVP award. The Ravens also have struggled at times this season slowing down opponents passing attack.
Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks ($5,900): The Seahawks might be the best team in the NFL at this point of the season. The only concern heading into this weekend’s contest is how much will Carolina Panthers try to limit the running game of Marshawn Lynch. If the Panthers over analyze and put too much emphasis on stopping “Beast Mode” this will open up the passing attack for Russell Wilson with Baldwin his key receiver.
Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers ($8,400): Lacy is a big physical running back that is built to run the ball in the playoffs. This could be a key factor this weekend with the cold temperatures as well as how healthy Aaron Rodgers is. Last week the Cowboys allowed 90 yards on 22 carries and one touchdown to the Detroit Lions running game.
Key Fantasy Sleeper:
Marlon Brown, Baltimore Ravens ($4,500): The Patriots will look to slow down both Torrey and Steve Smith this week. That includes putting Darrelle Revis one one and Brandon Browner on the other. This opens up the door for Brown to make some plays down the field in the passing game. Add in the way Flacco has played in the playoffs over the past few seasons and this is a great fantasy play.
