Strategies
The big guns look to lead daily fantasy owners tonight headlined by Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs. Now Arrieta isn’t the only top option on the mound on Tuesday Night as the list includes Sonny Gray for the Oakland A’s, Matt Harvey for the New York Mets and Jeff Samardzija for the San Francisco Giants.
Now before we get to the rest of the top starters on Tuesday Night we have elected to take a look at Arrieta. Entering this game, Arrieta has been dominate on the mound for his fantasy owners this year especially on FanDuel as he has turned in at least 42 points in all five of his starters including three contests of at least 51 points. Along with his success this season, Arrieta has been brilliant in his career against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his previous nine starts against the Pirates the Cubs starter has gone 6-1 over that stretch with a 1.68 earned run and 51 strikeouts in 59 innings. Those numbers include going 3-0 with a 2.25 earned run average on the road at PNC Park.

While we are sold on building our lineup around the Cubs ace we also like a few of the other starters on the mound. One of the other options we like is Matt Harvey who is slowly rebounding after a slow start. Harvey has posted at least 36 fantasy points in back to back games including 36 points against the same Atlanta Braves team he will be facing off tonight against.
The other starter we like tonight is Jose Quintana of the Chicago White Sox against the Boston Red Sox. The White Sox Starter has posted at least 30 fantasy points in all five starts this season. Meanwhile Quintana has been solid against the Red Sox in his career holding them to a .217 batting average over 69 career at bats.
Here is our MLB FanDuel Lineup for Tuesday May 3rd, 2016.
SP – Jake Arrieta ($12,100): It is just to hard to pass up on Arrieta tonight despite the fact he will be going up against a very good Pittsburgh Pirates lineup. On the Fantasy Sleeper side we also strongly considered Eddie Butler who costs only $5,700 and will make his first start of the season. Butler who was called up last week posted four strikeouts in 2.1 innings for the Colorado Rockies out of relief.
C – Bryan Holaday ($2,000): Looking for a fantasy sleeper to free up some additional savings landed us with the Texas Rangers. While we suggest monitoring the daily lineups when they come out we expect Holaday to be in the lineup tonight making him a great fantasy play hitting at the Rogers Centre. Other catchers we considered including Austin Romine for the New York Yankees and Derek Norris for the San Diego Padres.
1B – Chris Carter ($3,300): We also considered Chris Davis as a top tier option before landing with the Brewers first baseman. Carter is an interesting case based on his high lower batting average but his upside is the fact he has four games with at least 15 fantasy points over his last nine games including a 50.1 performance just a few nights ago.
2B – Jonathan Schoop ($2,400): Entering the season Schoop was our breakout fantasy option of the season. After a slow start, Schoop is starting to heat up picking up hits in five straight games including a home run while scoring three runs and riving in three runs.
3B – Alex Rodriguez ($3,500): The New York Yankees third baseman enters the team’s next series with the Baltimore Orioles red hot. Rodriguez has picked up home runs in three straight games while driving in seven runs over his last five games posting over 18.7 fantasy points in three of those games.
SS – Andrelton Simmons ($2,300): Looking at MLB games taking place in some of the better hitter ballparks landed us with Simmons. Despite going 0 for his last 8, the Los Angeles hitters will get another shot at Miller Park tonight. Entering tonight, Miller Park ranks first in all of baseball in homeruns per game.
OF – Hunter Pence ($3,700): Now we considered going with Giancarlo Stanton based on his recent host streak but the downside is that we would have needed to go with two fantasy sleepers in the outfield. That led us to Pence who has posted at least 15 fantasy pints in four of the last five games and seven over the last ten games.
OF – Michael Saunders ($3,400): After a hot streak last week, Saunders has cooled down a little but we like him tonight at home at the Rogers Centre. Another option in the $3,400 price range includes George Springer and Josh Reddick.
OF – Ryan Rua ($2,300): Rua is an interesting situation as he seems to either deliver a solid performance or lays just a zero. That being said the Texas Rangers outfielder has picked up hits in back to back games including a home run while posting 9.2 and 18.7 fantasy points in those two games.
