Strategies
The 2016 MLB season continues to roll as the playoff picture is heating up for both the American and National Leagues. The same can be said for daily fantasy owners who are looking to capitalize on this MLB action down the stretch. Tonight we are blessed with a solid nine game slate that features studs on the mounds, big time power options at hitter friendly ball parks and a few sleeper options who could reward us with a big time performance.
On the mound the big 3 for Monday August 8th features Jose Fernandez for the Miami Marlins, Johnny Cueto for the San Francisco Giants and Cole Hamels for the Texas Rangers. Cueto and Fernandez will look to outduel each other in Miami while Hamels will have his hands full at Coors Field tonight against a Colorado Rockies team that smashes at home.
Keeping our hopes high the weather outlook for tonight’s action looks great to build our FanDuel lineups around. Four of the nine games are being played indoors, four of the other five games have no rain in their forecast with only the Rockies/Texas Rangers contest featuring a chance of rain at the start of game time.
MLB FanDuel Advice – Monday August 8th, 2016
Starting Pitchers
Michael Wacha, St. Louis Cardinals: While we love the top tier options on the mound we like the Cardinals starters value tonight at just $7,300 on FanDuel. Wacha will take the mound against a Cincinnati Reds team he just faced off against back on August 3rd going five innings and finishing with 30 fantasy points. Overall Wacha has picked up at least 30 fantasy points in seven of his last ten outings.
R.A. Dickey, Toronto Blue Jays: We could have also stated Dickey as a fantasy sleeper tonight but we just like his matchup against a Tampa Bay Rays team that features very little offensive power in their lineup outside of Evan Longoria.
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Julio Urias
First Baseman
Chris Davis, Baltimore Orioles: While the Colesuem in Oakland isn’t a very hitter friendly ballpark the Orioles first baseman has the power to hit it out of any ball park. While Davis might not be the sure bet option we do know that when he gets hot he rides in bunches so look for him to add on to his home run totals tonight.
Other First Base Options we like include Freddie Freeman, Mitch Moreland and Adrian Gonzalez.
Second Baseman
Ian Kinsler, Detroit Tigers: Looking for a few favorable fantasy matchups landed us with the Tigers second baseman tonight. Kinsler has hit Hisashi Iwakuma well in his career picking up 12 hits over 32 career at bats including three of them going for home runs.
Brian Dozier, Minnesota Twins: Dozier is another interesting option tonight as he has posted at least 12 fantasy points in eight of his last ten games. Tonight he will look to continue that stretch at home against the Houston Astros.
Other Second Base Options we like include Jonathan Schoop, Jace Peterson and Devon Travis.
Third Baseman
Manny Machado, Baltimore Orioles: After a hot start to the 2016 MLB season, Machado had cooled off over the past month or two before connecting on three home runs yesterday. Tonight we expect to see some fireworks out of the Orioles lineup so Machado is a sure option as well as a few of the other Orioles to stack with.
Other Third Base Options we like include Nolan Arenado, Adrian Beltre and Hernan Perez.
Short Stop
Erick Aybar, Atlanta Braves: The short stop position is a great slot to save some fantasy cash tonight with players like Aybar and J.J. Hardy both costing well under the $3k mark. Aybar has been solid over the past few games posting at least 15.7 fantasy points in three of his last four games.
Other Short Stop Options we like include J.J. Hardy, Brad Miller and Jose Iglesias.
Outfielders
Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado Rockies: While the Rockies will have a difficult task at hand tonight against a very good starter we like a few of their stars to continue to produce. One of those guys is Cargo who might be the most dangerous outfielder in the game as long as the Rockies are at Coors Field.
Ryan Bruan, Milwuakee Brewers: Heres another solid fantasy option based on the ballpark as Miller Park ranks near the tops in every offensive category according to ESPN Park Factors. That being said Braun has been solid of late picking up four home runs over his last five games to go with ten runs driven in.
Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins: The Marlins outfielder is riding back to back home runs entering tonights contest. Add that success with the fact he has five career hits off of Cueto in just 13 at bats including two home runs should land him into some FanDuel lineups tonight.
Other Outfielder Options we like include Kevin Kiermaier, Matt Kemp, Jake Marisnick (Fantasy Sleeper), Mark Trumbo and Josh Reddick.
