The 2016 NFL Season rolls into week 3 as we get set for another big weekend of daily fantasy football action. This weekend presents us with a a few key fantasy matchups as well as a ton of questions that we need to address as well before getting to our top FanDuel plays for the weekend.
One player who will look to take advantage of one of those key fantasy matchups is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. This weekend Rodgers has a very favorable matchup against a Detroit Lions team that has allowed 623 passing yards to go along with six touchdowns through their first two games.
Rodgers isn’t the only quarterback with a key matchup this weekend as Drew Brees and Marcus Mariota also have nice plays. Along with their wide receivers the other Fantasy Matchups we like include the New York Giants running game against the Washington Redskins as well as the Arizona Cardinals group of receivers against the Buffalo Bills.
As far as the questions the top one for week 3 is whether or not Todd Gurley is ready to have a big game. Gurley who was one of the top fantasy football options at the running back position has just 98 yards through the Los Angeles Rams first two games while averaging just 2.7 yards per carry.
Here is our list of top FanDuel Fantasy Options for week 3 of the NFL Season.
Starting Quarterback FanDuel
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: For us Rodgers is the top fantasy option this weekend against a very suspect Lions defense. Last season Rodgers had solid success against the Lions passing for 606 with four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.
Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens: While we love Rodgers and Drew Brees as top tier fantasy options we also like Flacco as a cheaper option as well. Flacco has a very favorable matchup against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that has giving up seven total touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season.
Other Quarterback Options to consider: Drew Brees and Brian Hoyer (Deep Fantasy Sleeper).
Starting Running Back FanDuel
Dexter McCluster, San Diego Chargers: Now before you think I am crazy you really have to take a look at this as a nice fantasy sleeper option. While McCluster just joined the Chargers lineup he is very familiar with Ken Whisenhunt who was his head coach in Tennessee. That being said the Chargers have a very favorable fantasy matchup for Melvin Gordon as well but we like McCluster as a pass catcher against a Indianapolis Colts team that has giving up 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints: After putting up back to back disappointing fantasy performances we expect Ingram to bounce back against the Atlanta Falcons in week 3. On the year the Falcons have allowed 356 yards and two touchdowns to opposing running backs.
Other Running Backs to consider: Matt Forte and Rashad Jennings.
Starting Wide Receiver FanDuel
Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers: Now we could have easily gone with Jordy Nelson as well this weekend. In the end we expect the Falcons to look to shut down one of these options with Nelson being that guy after pulling in touchdowns over the first two games of the season.
Andre Johnson, Tennessee Titans: Much like Cobb, Johnson will benefit from the Oakland Raiders looking to slow down Tajee Sharpe. While he isn’t the player he once was he did show his quarterback and team he can make the big play after hauling in the game winning catch with less than two minutes left last weekend.
Phillip Dorsett, Indianapolis Colts: The Colts are going to be a passing team this season as long as Andrew Luck is healthy. With that being said and the injury to Donte Moncrief we expect Dorsett to play an expanded roll in the teams passing attack going forward.
Other Wide Receivers to consider include: Steve Smith, Allen Robinson, Michael Thomas and Larry Fitzgerald.
Starting Tight End FanDuel
Jared Cook, Green Bay Packers: Can week 3 be the week that Cook breaks out against a very suspect Detroit Lions defense? For us in a week where the tight end position lacks a true lock at the position, Cook is an interesting option as long as the Packers elect to work him in more to the offense.
Other Tight Ends to consider include: Dennis Pitta and Jimmy Graham.
Starting Kicker FanDuel
Josh Lambo, San Diego Chargers: For us we looked at the games we expect to see the highest point totals as well as teams that have allowed the most points. At the front of that is the Chargers/Colts game while the Colts are allowing the most fantasy points per game this season.
Other Kickers to consider include: Justin Tucker and Chandler Catanzaro.
Starting Defense FanDuel
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: We could have easily gone a few directions here but in the end we couldn’t pass up a Bucs team that has scored just nine points this season while failing to score a touchdown.
Other Defenses to consider include: Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks.
