LeSean McCoy set to reign as the top fantasy running back entering 2014. McCoy, who finished with a league high 1,607 yards has the potential to top those numbers in Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense. The Philadelphia Eagles running back also adds another dynamic with his ability to be one of the top receiving running backs in the NFL.
As McCoy sits at the top of the fantasy running back list we will look at the rest of the top 10 list.
Top Fantasy Running Backs:
1. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles: The dual threat ability of McCoy makes him the ideal top choice for the position. In each of his five seasons in the NFL McCoy has caught at least 40 passes and over 300 yards receiving to go along with his rushing stats.
2. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: All Day Peterson might not deliver as much as some of the NFL other top fantasy backs, but we expect a big season with Norv Turner at offensive coordinator. If the Vikings can get solid play at the quarterback position the 2,000 yard mark could be in Peterson’s future.
3. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs: Much like McCoy in Philadelphia, Charles is in a perfect system under Andy Reid. We expect Reid to continue to work Charles into both the rushing and passing game.
4. Alfred Morris, Washington Redskins: The Redskins added talent at the receiver position which in return may open up the running game even more for Morris. In just two seasons Morris has 2,888 yards on the ground and 20 rushing touchdowns. If Jay Gruden can figure a way to get him in the passing game he could be number one on this list.
5. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears: Entering his seventh season in the NFL Forte has been one of the fantasy backs each season. In four of six seasons, he rushed for over 1,000 yards with the other two seasons over 900 yards. He has also added at least 44 catches in every season with his high last season at 74.
6. Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers: Lacy was the only rookie to top the 1,000 yard mark last season and was able to accomplish this without Aaron Rodgers for multiple weeks. A healthy Rodgers in 2014 will continue to allow running lanes for Lacy.
7. DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys: The only concern is whether or not Murray can stay healthy for all 16 games. If that is the case in 2014 he could top the 1,400 yard mark as the Cowboys will look to increase the running game with Tony Romo coming off back surgery.
8. Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers: Bell has the build and style of running game built to be the ball carrier in Pittsburgh. We continue to hear the team wants to get back to the running game they had in years past which would open up for Bell.
9. Arian Foster, Houston Texans: Foster drops on the list due to the uncertainty of the Texans offense with the main concern coming at the quarterback position. Foster could move up the list as the preseason moves along if we see production from the Texans.
10. Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens: Minus the two games he will miss at the start of the season we saw enough in one preseason game to see that Rice put in the work this off-season. Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak will look to use Rice similar to the how he used Foster with the Texans.
