Cam Newton eyes big time fantasy performance in week 10. Newton and the Carolina Panthers will be on prime time football on Monday Night as they welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to town. An Eagles team that has allowed at least two touchdown passes in all but one of their games this season.
This opens up the door for the former Auburn Tiger to put up big numbers through the air and on the ground. Newton has put together a solid season but not the fantasy type production we have seen from him over the past few seasons. The Panthers have been without starting running backs Jonathan Stewart and Deangelo Williams for multiple weeks on top of losing their long time wide receiver Steve Smith.
In eight games this season the Panthers quarterback has 1,794 yards with eight touchdowns through the air and 257 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns. Along with Newton we recommend starting Kelvin Benjamin at the wide receiver position and Greg Olson at tight end forming a nice stack.
Here are some of the other top fantasy plays for week 10.
Bobby Rainey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: This might be the last week you can use the versatile dual threat back as the team is expecting rookie running back Charles Sims to make his debut today. That being said the Atlanta Falcons have allowed the most rushing touchdowns along with the most receiving yards to running backs this season.
LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles: McCoy has given his fantasy owners some big games on the ground but he has been less than stellar finding the end zone. That should change on Monday Night Football against a Panthers team that has allowed a combined 12 touchdowns to opposing running backs this season.
Zach Mettenberger, Tennessee Titans: At first this play didn’t make much sense and it might not in season long leagues but if you look at the Ravens secondary that might change your mind. The Ravens released two corners this week and replaced them with a practice squad player and a player off the waiver wire. This is the same team that allowed a league high six touchdown passes last week.
Justin Hunter, Tennessee Titans: Hunter and Mettenberger built a rapport over the summer and it showed against the Houston Texans before the bye. Mettenberger targeted Hunter 10 times connecting with him four times for 31 yards and one touchdown.
Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons: Todays matchup against the Buccaneers is a great play for both Jones as well as Matt Ryan. The Bucs have allowed a league high 13 touchdown receptions to receivers this weekend along with five in one game earlier this season. This game has the making to be a high scoring game on both sides as both teams have struggled this season.
Other notable players to consider starting: Jordan Mathews (Philadelphia Eagles), Torrey Smith (Baltimore Ravens) and Matt Forte (Chicago Bears).
