The second half of the 2015 Major League Baseball season gets underway on Friday for fantasy owners to capitalize on FanDuel. The action is filled as all 30 teams are in action tonight opening up an endless possibility of fantasy options. This includes Jose Fernandez who will make his third start of the season after missing most of the first half recovering from Tommy John surgery last season.

Fernandez was able to return prior to the All-Star break making two starts for the Miami Marlins. His first start came back on July 2nd against San Francisco at home finishing six innings allowing three earned runs while striking out six. The Marlins would go on to win 5-4 giving Fernandez his first win of the season. Fernandez went seven innings allowing zero earned runs while striking out nine in a 2-0 Marlins win.
Along with Fernandez some of the other top options on the mound included Sonny Gray of the Oakland A’s, Masahiro Tanaka for the New York Yankees and Jordan Zimmerman for the Washington Nationals. Gray was one of the top starters in the American League picking up ten wins to go with the top earned run average in the league.
Here is our Major League Baseball FanDuel lineup for Friday July 17th, 2015.
P – Jose Fernandez ($10,500): Fernandez is an easy option on the mound tonight against a struggling Philadelphia Phillies team. The Phillies rank near the bottom of every major offensive stat in baseball while the team has allowed more runs than other team in baseball.
C – Salvador Perez ($2,400): Looking at a cheap option landed us with the American League starting catcher in this years All-Star lineup. Perez had posted back to back strong fantasy performances before going hitless against Toronto the last game before the break.
First Base – Billy Butler ($2,800): While you have a ton of great options to choose from this play is strictly based on success. Butler has had some solid success off of Ervin Santana in 31 career at bats. The A’s first baseman has picked up eight hits in that stretch including five home runs and nine runs batted in.
Second Base – Jedd Gyorko ($2,200): Since we went with an expensive starter we had to find a FanDuel bargain. Gyorko is hitting .667 off of Jorge De La Rosa in 18 career at bats. This includes five extra base hits to go with five walks and three runs batted in. The cheap salary provides us with some salary cap relief. Another solid option would be Neil Walker for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Third Base – Nolan Arenado ($5,000): This might be the easiest option of our entire FanDuel lineup tonight. Arenado put together one of the best first halves that we have seen from any third baseman. The Colorado Rockies third baseman has seven hits in 11 career at bats verse James Shields with three home runs and five runs batted in.
Short Stop –Jean Segura ($2,500): Segura is a solid option at short stop tonight with a cost saving salary. Entering the break, the Milwaukee Brewers short stop had picked up at least three fantasy points in six of ten contests while putting together four three hit ball games.
Outfielder – Matt Kemp ($3,200): The San Diego Padres outfielder has yet to live up to the hype the fans expected after the team acquired him a trade this offseason. For us tonight though, Kemp is a great option against the Rockies starter. Kemp is hitting .409 with nine extra base hits and 16 runs batted in.
Outfielder – Brandon Moss ($2,900): Looking around at the action tonight and the ball parks the games are being played at landed us with Moss. The Cleveland Indians are heading to Cincinnati to take on the Reds in one of the best hitter ballparks in baseball.
Outfielder – Nelson Cruz ($3,500): Cruz represented the American League at designated hitter in the All-Star game. That being said after a strong start the Seattle Mariners slowed down heading into the break. That being said Cruz still finished with 21 home runs and 53 runs batted in before the break.
