Henrik Lundqvist looks to anchor FanDuel lineups for January 7th. The New York Rangers goalie continues to have a great 2014-15 NHL season and that should continue tonight against the Anaheim Ducks out west. On Tuesday we heard that Lundqvist will get the nod on Wednesday Night while the team’s second goalie Cam Talbot will get the start against Los Angeles.

Lundqvist has been brilliant in his last starts picking up wins in nine of ten contests. This includes eight of ten games allowing two or fewer goals. Over that same ten game stretch, the Rangers goalie has put up six contests with at least six fantasy points with three other games with over 4.6 fantasy points. The only concern with going with an expensive goalie is finding the right bargain options at some of the other positions.

The other fantasy play we like tonight to build your fantasy lineup around is Alexander Ovechkin. The Washington Capitals star has put together a nice stretch of games including three straight games with at least two points and over 7.7 fantasy points. In his last ten games, Ovechkin has netted fantasy owners at least eight fantasy points in four games and over four fantasy points in three other contests.

When you add these two players to your fantasy lineup tonight it lowers your average player salary down to $5,100 per player. This is where you will have to get creative but consider you have only four games to build your lineup around it might be easier then what you think.

Here is our suggested FanDuel NHL Lineup for January 7th.

LW – Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals ($9,400): The former NHL scoring leader has started to get his 2014-15 season on track something that could warrant many more fantasy starts down the stretch.

LW – Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary Flames ($4,400): Gaudreau put together a nice game against the Islanders on Friday finishing the game with 4.2 fantasy points. The Flames left winger has shown at time this season he can be a big time scorer including a 15.3 point game against the LA Kings on December 22 finishing with a hat trick.

RW – Steve Downie, Pittsburgh Penguins ($3,900): This move is more on the hot streak Downie has been on when he finds the ice. This includes a 9.7 fantasy point performance on Friday Night but over his last 10 games he has played dating back to early December the fantasy points continue to be produced.

RW – Justin Abdelkader, Detroit Red Wings ($4,500): Six straogjt ga,es wotj at least 1.5 fantasy points including a 9.8 performance in the team’s last contest against Edmonton. This play is more about the consistency then his ability to put up the big performance though he registered three straight fantasy performances with over three points in December.

C – Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings ($7,300): We debated back and forth to either go expensive with a Sidney Crosby or a few dollars cheaper. This move opened up the ability to spend a little more on some of the other positions. Datsyuk has registered 12.4 fantasy performances over his last three games on the ice.

C – Derick Brassard, New York Rangers ($5,300): Ride the hot streak with Brassard tonight as he has registered back to back games with at least one goal. This could be a good trend for the Rangers center moving forward for the rest of the 2014-15 NHL season.

D – John Carlson, Washington Capitals ($4,500): The Capitals defenseman has set up an assist in five of his last 10 games played. Along with the assists, Carlson has registered back to back games with at least four shots on goal and seven games with over two shots on goal in his last 10 games.

D – Ryan McDonagh, New York Rangers ($5,300): McDonagh has been consistent over his last 10 games which opened the door for us to use him tonight. If you look back at his fantasy performances over the past month he has four games with at least two fantasy points, one game with over three, one with over four, one with over seven and one with nine fantasy points.

G – Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers ($9,900): It is hard to go against any goalie that has picked up nine wins over his last ten games between the pipes. Over that stretch Lundqvist has also delivered a few big fantasy performances including his shutout against Edmonton on December 14.
