The NBA Season is a little over three weeks away leaving fantasy owners some time to prepare! The opening night gets underway with three games in action including the defending champions San Antonio Spurs hosting the Dallas Mavericks at 8pm. The other 2 NBA games include the Orland Magic at New Orleans Pelicans at 8pm and the Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers at 10:30pm.
As you prepare for your draft the keys to drafting a solid fantasy teams that has the potential to win your league comes in the later rounds. The top fantasy stars such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis are on everyone’s draft sheet. It’s the names like Trey Burke, Terrance Jones and Kenneth Faried that help fill out that roster.
Here are a few tips to remember when preparing for your draft.
Draft players who have the ability to produce in multiple statistic’s on the basketball court. Such as a point guard like Ronjon Rondo who has the ability to grab both rebounds and dish out assists to help his lower points per game average.
Avoid getting dragged into the hype around players who came on strong last year or are being predicted to have big seasons. Now this doesn’t mean to stay completely away from them but don’t draft a Nerlens Noel in the early rounds just because people are raising his draft stock.
Don’t reach for your favorite player and stay away from to many players on the same team. This has been one of our key rules for years as we draft in not only basketball leagues but the NFL, NHL and MLB as well. The name that doesn’t belong in that round but someone decides to take them helping the rest of that round build a stronger team.
Now that you have seen a few of our tips, here are a few players we expect to have big seasons in 2014/15.
Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards: The star name on the team is John Wall but Beal has the potential to be a top star in the league. The Wizards shooting guard increased his points per game from 13.9 to 17.1 as well as his assists from 2.4 to 3.3 per game. Beal also has the ability to shoot the three ball after connecting on 42 percent of attempts last season.
Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls: The Bulls shooting guard will benefit from having a healthy Derrick Rose in the lineup each night. The fourth year star has seen his points per game, assists per game and rebounds per game increase in each of the previous three seasons. This season Butler has the chance to average upwards of 17-19 points per game with Rose taking the pressure off of him.
Tim Hardaway Jr, New York Knicks: Hardaway impressed as a rookie last year averaging 10.2 points per game in just 23.1 minutes. This season Hardaway will see both his minutes increase as well as the rest of his offensive statistic’s.
