The MLB trade deadline has come and gone but how will it impact the fantasy world moving forward. For many fans of Major League Baseball and of fantasy baseball today is much like Christmas for some and just a bad day for others.

Today featured a handful of blockbuster trades including two of the American League’s best pitchers finding new homes. The biggest of the names to get traded was David Price heading from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Detroit Tigers. This move now makes the Tigers not only the favorite to win the World Series but should give fantasy owners five solid starters to choose from when they take the mound.

The Tigers though weakened their outfield as they traded Austin Jackson to the Seattle Mariners in the three team deal to land Price. The Tampa Bay Rays in return landed Nick Franklin and Drew Smyly to finish off the trade. Jackson’s ability to hit the gaps should work in Seattle in a ball park that balls don’t fly out as much. In 99 games this season Jackson has 25 doubles and five triples along with four home runs.

For Price it didn’t matter if he got traded or remained with the Rays as he is a must start every time he takes the mound. Now he might even produce at an even higher rate going to a Tigers team that has scored the fifth most runs in all of baseball.
 

 
The other block buster deals involved two Boston Red Sox starters leaving town. The first was Jon Lester who was dealt out west to the Oakland A’s. The other was John Lackey who was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox did receive a few nice pieces along the way that could help down offensively down the stretch including Yoenis Cespedes and Allen Craig. Cespedes alone has more home runs than the entire Red Sox outfield tandem combined.

Lackey might benefit the most heading from a heavy hitting American League to more of a pitchers division in the NL Central. The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds both are in the bottom five in all of baseball in runs scored. Lester also gets a big boost heading from a team that has the fewest runs scored in the AL to the team that has the most runs scored.

All of these trades will have major impacts on fantasy rosters down the stretch!
