Strategies
The second half of the 2017 MLB Schedule continues tonight with a solid 12 game slate on tap. Despite the heavy slate of action there is one thing missing tonight among those contests. That one thing is the lack of top tier starting pitching options that will be taking to the hill.
That is the one big question mark for us tonight as the top 10 fantasy starters based on salaries have all been up and down at times with little to no guarantee they will reward us with a big time fantasy outing. While Jon Lester looks to be the favorite as he takes the hill against the Atlanta Braves, for us he only looks like a cash game lineup as we expect to see a high usage rate.
Meanwhile on the lower tier side of the pitching option is it worth a better gamble to go with someone like Jerad Eickhoff in GPP Formats? The Philadelphia Phillies starter has gone at least five innings in four starts while posting at least six strikeouts in two of those outings.
Now before we get to our Daily Fantasy Baseball Options we like for Monday July 17th, 2017. Lets take a look at a few MLB Stacks we like for tonight.
MLB Stacks To Consider for Monday July 17th, 2017
Shin-soo Choo – Adrian Beltre – Rougned Odor (Possible Joey Gallo)
DJ LeMahieu – Nolan Arenado – Carlos Gonzalez
Aaron Judge – Chase Headley – Did Gregorius
With that said let’s get to the rest of the guys we like to build our daily fantasy baseball rosters around.
Here is our Daily Fantasy Baseball Options for Monday July 17th, 2017
Starting Pitcher – Jerad Eickhoff
The lack of solid top tier options tonight limits what we really would like to do in GPP formats. That being said Eickhoff is one of those starters who despite seeing struggles at times he still has value as he has shown his ability to strikeout opposing hitters. Meanwhile another option we really like tonight is Jordan Zimmerman who will get the advantage of taking the hill against a Kansas City Royals team that has struggled at the plate at times and currently sits in the bottom half of the league in team OPS.
Top Tier Option: N/A
Mid Tier Option: Adam Wainwright
Fantasy Sleeper: Jordan Zimmerman & Bryan Mitchell
Catcher – Robinson Chirinos or Jonathan Lucroy
With the struggles the Baltimore Orioles starters having right now it is hard to look past any member of the Texas Rangers tonight. This includes whichever catcher gets the start tonight against Chris Tillman who has struggled for most of the 2017 MLB season. Entering tonight both lefties and righties are posting wOBA’s over the .413 mark against Tillman while righties have a .240 ISOPower mark.
Top Tier Option: Gary Sanchez
Mid Tier Option: Brian McCann & Welington Castillo
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Mike Zunino
First Base – Wil Myers
Now we could have gone a few directions at first base tonight including with guys like Anthony Rizzo and Miguel Cabrera. In the end we just can’t look past the idea of using Wil Myers tonight at Coors Field. Entering tonight, Coors Field ranks 1st in all of MLB in runs, 4th in home runs and 2nd in hits according to MLB Park Factors. Those numbers open up the idea of stacking both the Padres as well as the Rockies tonight.
Top Tier Option: Miguel Cabrera & Anthony Rizzo
Mid Tier Options: Mike Napoli & Chris Davis
Fantasy Sleeper: Joey Gallo & Ji-Man Choi
Second Base – Rougned Odor
Despite his recent struggles including going hitless over his last four games, Odor still has a ton of fantasy value as he enters tonight’s contest with 17 home runs on the season. While he might not get the look in cash game lineups, he has the upside and power potential to reward his daily fantasy owners. Add that with the fact he gets a chance to hit at the very friendly hitter ball park at Camden Yards against a struggling starter raises his fantasy value for us tonight.
Top Tier Option: Jose Altuve
Mid Tier Option: Jonathan Schoop
Fantasy Sleeper: Kolten Wong
Third Base – Chase Headley
Now Arenado is our top option and one that we will be using tonight as well in both our cash and gpp lineups. That being said it is hard to look past Headley who get a chance to hit at Target Field which also ranks near the top in every offensive category much like Coors Field. Add that with the fact that Adalberto Mejia has allowed lefties to post a .388 wOBA and a .234 ISOPower mark makes Headley another solid option.
Top Tier Option: Nolan Arenado
Mid Tier Option: Adrian Beltre
Fantasy Sleeper: Matt Chapman
Short Stop – Didi Gregorius
Tonight’s one of those nights where we are looking to ride the stacks against certain pitchers as well as at certain ball parks. This opened up the door for Gregoirus who should be able to take advantage of Mejia much like his teammates Headley and Brett Gardner. Meanwhile in cash game lineups we love Carlos Correa tonight as a player who can carry a team but should see a high usage rate among tournament lineups.
Top Tier Option: Carlos Correa
Mid Tier Option: Elvis Andrus & Troy Tulowitzki
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Alcides Escobar
Outfielders – Aaron Judge, Ryan Braun & Shin-soo Choo
Now the outfield options tonight are solid from the top to the middle tier options so the ability to save some money in the outfield is an option. For us though with the power potential at Target Field it will be hard to look past Judge who nearly hit his 31st home run of the season on Sunday. Meanwhile Braun has hits in three straight games including a home run while also showing he is somewhat healthy with his stolen base on Sunday. The last of our outfield options is Choo who could produce at Camden Yards and against Tillman tonight.
Top Tier Option: Mookie Betts
Mid Tier Option: Brett Gardner & Carlos Gonzalez
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Kyle Schwarber & Jaycob Brugman
