The 2017 MLB Season delivers an action packed full slate tonight with all 30 teams in action. A slate that includes 11 divisional matchups including a prime time pitching matchup in Detroit where the Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound while the Cleveland Indians send Corey Kluber.
Tonight’s slate is an interesting one on both the mound as well as at the plate with a ton of solid Daily Fantasy Baseball Options to build around. On the mound the top of those options is Chris Sale who will take the mound for the Boston Red Sox at home at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles.
For Sale tonight will mark his six start of the season as he continues to look for his second win of the year. Entering this start, the Red Sox starter has gone at least seven innings in all five his starts while striking out 52 total hitters. That type of success has helped Sale to produce at least 46 fantasy points for his FanDuel owners in each of those starts.
Now as Sale sits as the top Daily Fantasy Baseball Option tonight the big question is whether or not we should look to someone else who might be used less or to look to build on that success? Here is whom we like tonight as Daily Fantasy Baseball Options for Tuesday May 2nd, 2017.
Starting Pitcher – Masahiro Tanaka
The options on the mound are endless tonight with at least six top tier fantasy options available. While it is hard to pass up on Sale his matchup against a very potent Baltimore Orioles lineup is enough to move us away from him as well as the expectations his usage will be very high tonight. This turns us to someone like Tanaka who has a very favorable matchup against a struggling Toronto Blue Jays team. The same team that has only 15 career hits off of Tanaka in 93 at bats while also striking out 28 times.
Top Tier Option: Chris Sale (Cash Lineups)
Mid Tier Option: Jose Quintana & Matt Moore
Fantasy Sleeper: Edinson Volquez or Alec Asher (GPP Tournaments)
Catcher – Jonathan Lucroy
Tonight’s Texas Rangers/Houston Astros matchup may have three of the top options behind the plate available. While Evan Gattis and Brian McCann have each had success against Cole Hamels in the past Lucroy has the better matchup against Mike Fiers. Not that being said Lucroy is one of those options more suited for a GPP lineup with expectations usage will be lower while the other two as well as Matt Wieters are perfect options for a cash lineup.
Top Tier Option: N/A
Mid Tier Option: Matt Wieters, Evan Gattis & Brian McCann.
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Caleb Joseph
First Base – Ryan Zimmerman
The numbers could point all different directions at first base including guys like Carlos Santana and Will Myers. In the end the Washington Nationals first baseman might be one of the hotter hitters in all of baseball over the past few weeks picking up six home runs over his last seven games. On the lower tier side someone like Trey Mancini, Adrian Gonzalez and even Chris Carter provide you a high GPP side for there salary.
Top Tier Option: Freddi Freeman
Mid Tier Options: Mitch Moreland & Josh Bell
Fantasy Sleeper: Chris Carter
Second Base – Josh Harrison
Now here is the case of us riding a player who is hot entering tonight’s MLB contests. The Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman enters tonight with three multi hit performances over his last five games while product double digit fantasy numbers in each of those contests. On the higher side we like both Daniel Murphy and Jose Altuve who each have had success against starters they will be facing off against tonight.
Top Tier Option: Daniel Murphy & Jose Altuve
Mid Tier Option: Dustin Pedroia
Fantasy Sleeper: Jed Lowrie (GPP Lineups)
Third Base – Jose Reyes
Just a week ago Reyes looked like a player who would not be able to get his career back on track. Fast forward to today and the New York Mets third baseman has been hot picking up hits in seven straight games including three multi hit performances while producing double digit fantasy performances for his owners in six straight games.
Top Tier Option: Nolan Arenado & Jose Ramirez
Mid Tier Option: Manny Machado (GPP) & Jedd Gyorko
Fantasy Sleeper: Adonis Garcia
Short Stop – Eric Aybar
As we built our lineup we considered expensive options like Trea Turner and Jean Segura tonight at the short stop position. In the we see a ton of value at the short stop position including someone like Eric Aybar who sits under the $3k mark. The San Diego Padres short stop might not be a power threat but he does have the potential to swipe a bag on most nights as well as a player who finds a way to get on base.
Top Tier Opton: Trea Turner & Jean Segura
Mid Tier Option: Freddy Galvis
Fantasy Sleeper Option: J.J. Hardy (Deep Sleeper) & Dansby Swanson
Outfielders – Nelson Cruz, Giancarlo Stanton & Eddie Rosario
We could have gone a few directions with our outfield choices including stacking both Cruz and Bryce Harper in the same lineup. In the end we elected to spread money to the other positions while still getting two players who have huge GPP upsides while the third is a solid producer despite sitting under the $3k mark. Cruz enters tonight with home runs in five of his last six games. Meanwhile Stanton is a player who may be looked past tonight after failing to get a hit over his last ten at bats. For us those struggles are a concern but in a GPP lineup he provides a 20 plus opportunity night in and night out. The last of our options is Rosario who enters tonight riding an 11 game hitting streak.
Top Tier Option: Bryce Harper & Mike Trout
Mid Tier Option: Mark Trumbo & Carlos Gomez
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Michael Saunders & Ben Gamel
