Strategies
The heavy action continues on the diamond tonight as all 30 MLB clubs take the field opening up long list of Daily Fantasy Baseball options. A list of options that includes a long list of players who are hot at the plate including Aaron Judge, Freddie Freeman, Miguel Sano, Ryan Zimmerman and Nelson Cruz.
Now before getting to our bats the big debate tonight is which of the starters taking the hill is worth the value tonight. Last night as we shied away from Sale in GPP leagues he rewarded his Daily Fantasy Baseball owners with another big time pay day. Tonight the big question is which of the 30 MLB starters are due to turn in a big time fantasy performance.
At the top of the list sits guys like Carlos Carrasco, Gio Gonzalez and Robbie Ray. Each of these starters are averaging over 39 fantasy points a game while guys like Jacob deGrom and Jake Arrieta have the big upside that could reward us to cash in on GPP lineups.
Before we take a look at our top Daily Fantasy Baseball Options for the night here is a quick look at a few of the MLB teams that rank near the bottom of the league in hitting.
Kansas City Royals
Rank 30th in OPS / 30th in Runs Scored / 30th In Batting Average
Oakland A’s
Rank 29th in Runs Scored / 26th in Batting Average / 24th in OPS
Tampa Bay Rays
Ranks 1st in MLB in Strikeouts
With that being said here is a look at the Daily Fantasy Baseball Options we like tonight.
Starting Pitcher – Jake Arrieta
For us Arrieta has the upside of a top tier starter in GPP formats while also being a consistent starter for owners taking place in cash games. On the year the Chicago Cubs starter has been solid posting over 36 fantasy points in three of his starts. Tonight he will look to continue that trend against a mediocre Philadelphia Phillies team. Meanwhile we will also look to build a few lineups around sleeper options like Adam Conley and Mike Pelfrey.
Top Tier Option: Jacob deGrom
Mid Tier Option: Gio Gonzalez
Fantasy Sleeper: Adam Conley & Mike Pelfrey
Catcher – Jonathan Lucroy
After riding Lucroy last night we have elected to stay the course again tonight against Charlie Morton. Over his career Morton has had issues keeping the ball in the ballpark opening up another chance for a big time fantasy performance tonight. Another option we like tonight is Alex Avila who has been solid of late turning in three straight double digit fantasy performances.
Top Tier Option: N/A
Mid Tier Option: Alex Avila
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Caleb Joseph & Yan Gomes
First Base – Yonder Alonso
Where to look at first base tonight might be our biggest debate with some of it riding on what we do on the mound. If you elect to go with Arrieta we really like Alonso’s upside in GPP Formats while going with someone like Gio Gonzalez could open the door for someone like Jose Abreu. In the end, Alonso enters tonight coming off a solid 21.7 fantasy performance against the Minnesota Twins.
Top Tier Option: Freddi Freeman & Wil Myers
Mid Tier Options: Chris Davis & Jose Abreu
Fantasy Sleeper: Joe Mauer or Marwin Gonzalez
Second Base – Dustin Pedroia
Looking at value tonight at the second base position landed us with the Boston Red Sox second baseman. While we strongly suggest monitoring the lineups later we expect him to be in the lineup tonight. For us we could look at stacking a Pedroia as well as few of the other Red Sox together tonight against a struggling Kevin Gausman.. Pedroia enters tonight picking up hits in four of his last five contests including two of them going for multi hits.
Top Tier Option: Jose Altuve
Mid Tier Option: Jonathan Schoop
Fantasy Sleeper: Jed Lowrie (GPP Lineups)
Third Base – Manny Machado
After a down month of April, the Baltimore Orioles third baseman has bounced back with back to back home run games. Add that with the fact he has responded after being throwing at with home runs makes for a fun night of baseball at Fenway Park. Currently the Orioles third baseman is riding five straight double digit performances entering tonight’s showdown.
Top Tier Option: Jose Ramirez & Miguel Sano
Mid Tier Option: Jose Reyes
Fantasy Sleeper: Adonis Garcia
Short Stop – Jordy Mercer
We are continuing to ride the high risk high reward type of option at the shortstop position to free up some additional salary cap space. The option we like tonight is the Pittsburgh Pirates short stop who has picked up two fantasy performances of over 21 fantasy points over his last five games. Add that with the fact he is hitting in one of the top hitters ball parks in all of baseball should open up for a solid fantasy night at the plate.
Top Tier Opton: Carlos Correa
Mid Tier Option: Freddy Galvis
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Dansby Swanson & Wilmer Difo
Outfielders – Mookie Betts, Nelson Cruz & Curtis Granderson
After stacking heavy in the outfield yesterday we are keeping the trends tonight going with Betts and Cruz. The two enter this game swinging solid bats while having some solid numbers against there opposing starters. Betts enters tonight hitting .435 off of Kevin Gausman with three career home runs. Meanwhile in 18 career at bats against Ricky Nolasco, Cruz has three career home runs. As for the third of the options we debeated between the likes of Curtis Granderson, Ryan Rua and Colby Rasmus. If you elect to go cheaper on the mound with a dark horse sleeper option you could spend more freely at the third outfield position.
Top Tier Option: Bryce Harper
Mid Tier Option: Adam Jones & Mitch Haniger
Fantasy Sleeper Option: Guillermo Heredia & Ben Gamel
