NBA Fantasy Sleepers

Unless you have drafted a perfectly sound team on draft day, you will definitely need to take a few risks on some sleepers that can give you a lot of value from a player who is unknown. There are several players this year that are benefiting from playing in a lowly city or have been traded into a better situation. There are quite a few players on the Philadelphia 76ers whom you might consider targeting as a sleeper. The 76ers have nothing to play for and are unlikely to make any trades this year, so their surrounding cast is what it is.

Michael Carter-Williams is the obvious winner here, but he was probably drafted in the mid rounds of most leagues. He does more good than bad, but has awful percentages and a high turnover rate. However, MCW has teammates who have benefited from playing on the same team. KJ McDaniels, Tony Wroten, and Robert Covington are interesting players to target in most leagues. In many cases, one or more of these players should be available in the waiver wire unless your league is a deep and competitive one.

Nonetheless, you can still trade for these players with another bench player perhaps. What makes McDaniels an interesting target is his ability to rack up defensive stats at the sf spot. He is capable of producing at least one block and one steal per game and also a couple threes. If he can get into the starting lineup and get consistent minutes in the upper 20s or lower 30s then he can up his stats big time.

Robert Covington on the other hand is a sf/pf who can shoot the 3 ball and also give you defensive stats. No one even heard of Covington until this year and now that he has the opportunity to produce big time for a struggling and rebuilding team, all signs point to yes for targeting this guy. He can pretty much give you stats all across the board and has been consistently hoisting up 10 shots per game, which is a good determining factor that he is a focal point in the offense. If you need to test your luck on a sleeper, I would highly recommend Robert Covington over KJ McDaniels at the moment because he is getting more playing time and can produce more on the offensive end for you.

Tony Wroten may not be a sleeper anymore because of his hot start to the season, but because of nagging injuries and the eventual return of MCW, Wroten has now been coming off the bench so his numbers have dipped quite a bit. You should be able to find him on the waiver wire if you need a guard that can give you stats all across the board. Although, he might not have the best percentages either and is turnover prone just like MCW. However, Wroten will have ample time commanding the second unit and will also share time with MCW from time to time. If you’re worried that he is coming off the bench, I wouldn’t fret so much considering that he can still put up modest numbers.

One other sleeper that is starting to get consistent burn is Jared Dudley of the Milwaukee Bucks. He had a terrible year last season because he wasn’t healthy at all and was in fact forced to play while injured because Doc Rivers needed him too. Now that he has finally become healthy, he is focusing solely on ball and his numbers are showing. Dudley is a streaky shooter who is a great defender. He should be able to knock down two threes, grab about five rebounds, dish out about two assists and get you a combined two steals and blocks per game. The Bucks are also not going anywhere this year and will look to unload a couple players by the trade deadline. My guess is that Ilyasova and Sanders will now longer be in Bucks uniform at the end of this season. This should open up consistent minutes for Dudley as he was acquired to be a veteran leader to these youngsters on the team.
