Strategies
The 2016 NFL Season continues to roll along as we reach the eighth week landing us almost at the mid way point. This is also one of the last weeks we all have to deal with key byes to our best weapons for both FanDuel as well as our season long fantasy leagues.
For us this week presents a few big time fantasy opportunities as well as some difficult decisions. One of those decisions comes at the quarterback position where you have a difficult play in Drew Brees going up against a very good Seattle Seahawks team.
Meanwhile in Atlanta both Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers look like solid plays in a game that could see some points scored. Then just a state down the Oakland Raiders head to Tampa Bay to take on a Buccaneers where both Jameis Winston and Derek Carr could have big time fantasy performances.
Moving over to the running back position another difficult decision comes in Cleveland where the New York Jets and Matt Forte will look to run the ball against a struggling Browns defense. The question mark though sits with Forte who is coming off a solid 27.4 fantasy performance last week but had failed to reach eight fantasy points in his previous four games.
Here is who we like for week 8 of the 2016 NFL Season to build our FanDuel lineups around.
Starting Quarterback FanDuel
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: We could have easily gone with Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton as well as Derek Carr this weekend. In the end we couldn’t pass up on Wilson going up against a Saints defense that has allowed the sixth most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season.
Other Quarterback Options to consider: Cam Newton, Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers.
Starting Running Back FanDuel
Christine Michael, Seattle Seahawks: We are looking to stack the deck against a Saints team that just hasn’t been good this season. Entering this weekend, the Saints have allowed 629 yards on the ground to opposing backs while allowing them to also add 306 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Devontae Booker, Denver Broncos: Booker will take over the main running back gig in Denver as CJ Anderson has found his way on to the IR. Now for us we like the potential that Booker has shown as well as the fact he plays in a run first type of offense that is led by Gary Kubiak.
Other Running Backs to consider: Bilal Powell (Deep Fantasy Sleeper For GPP Format), Spencer Ware and Theo Riddick.
Starting Wide Receiver FanDuel
Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks: Now we tossed around a few different fantasy options from the Saints receiving corps as well as their tight ends. In the end we like the Fantasy Value that Lockett presents to help off set some of the higher priced fantasy options we have built around.
Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: You can flip a coin in this game to go with either Evans or Amari Cooper. We like both of them going into their week 8 showdown but elected to go with Jordy Nelson over Cooper. Look for the Bucs/Raiders game to deliver some offensive fireworks in week 8.
Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers: For us we loved to imagine having Julio Jones in this slot. The downside the heavy price tag would limit what we could do so unless you like Gates at tight end or a cheaper wide receiver option for Evans we suggest riding in the $7k territory for two of your three receivers.
Other Wide Receivers to consider include: Julio Jones, T.Y. Hilton, Brandon Marshall, Chris Hogan (Fantasy Sleeper) and Tyrell Williams.
Starting Tight End FanDuel
Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots: It is hard for us to look past the NFL’s top tight end week in and week out. That being said we like his matchup this weekend while helping us put him ahead of guys like Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz. One name to monitor though is Antonio Gates who sits under the $6k mark but pulled in ten catches last weekend.
Other Tight Ends to consider include: Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce and Antonio Gates.
Starting Kicker FanDuel
Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons: For us we looked around at the games with the potential for most points scored. In the end it was hard to look past the Falcons/Packers game as both quarterbacks can sling. Currently this is the only contest that carries an over/under of over 50 in Las Vegas (Currently 52.5 points).
Other Kickers to consider include: Mason Crosby, Stephen Hauschka and Cairo Santos.
Starting Defense FanDuel
New York Jets: While the Jets have yet to live up to their expectations this season on the defensive side of the ball they are still a solid option this weekend against a bad Browns team. Entering Sunday the Browns rank 18th in total offensive yards, 27th in points scored and 12th in most turnovers.
Other Defenses to consider include: Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders.
