Strategies
The second half of the 2017 NFL Schedule gets underway this week as daily fantasy football owners look to cash in on FanDuel. Unfortunately for everyone taking part in any type of fantasy football action, the options will be thin with six teams set for their bye weeks including both the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. Furthermore, another top tier fantasy option in Deshaun Watson will not only miss this weekend but the rest of the year.
Luckily for every one this weekend, there are plenty of options to go around to build a winning daily fantasy football lineup. That being said one matchup that we are paying extra close attention to is the San Francisco 49ers heading to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. These two teams enter this game struggling to slow down opposing offenses while allowing a ton of fantasy points.
The 49ers enter allowing the second most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and most points to opposing running backs. This opens up the door for us to look at Drew Stanton as a possible sleeper option at quarterback as well as Adrian Peterson as a feature back as the team looks to take the pressure off their new starting quarterback. Meanwhile over on the other side the Cardinals are allowing the third most fantasy points to quarterbacks and fourth most to opposing wide receivers.
Now before we get to our top NFL FanDuel plays for Week 9 of the 2017 NFL Season, let’s take a look at a few of the key matchups that feature offenses that you can build a stack around.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints
Kansas City Chiefs @ Dallas Cowboys
Here is our Daily Fantasy Football Options we like for Week 9 of the 2017 NFL Season.
2017 NFL Daily Fantasy Football Options Week 9
Quarterback – Jared Goff
The options are heavy for us this weekend at the quarterback position as we have a few that will be inserted in various lineups including both Drew Brees & Derek Carr while Drew Stanton is worth the gamble in GPP tournaments. In the end, it’s hard for us to look past Goff this weekend against a very bad New York Giants team. Entering week 9, the Giants have allowed over 1,800 yards passing to go with 14 touchdowns while picking off just three passes. In games this season against teams with a bad pass defense Goff has posted 19.7, 23.58 and 16.44 fantasy points for his owners.
Other Top Quarterback Options – Drew Brees & Derek Carr
Sleeper Options – Drew Stanton
Potential Bust – Carson Wentz
Running Backs – Adrian Peterson & Marlon Mack
Looking at the matchups and defensive production opened up the door for us to lock in Peterson as our top option for Week 9. Peterson will look to take advantage of a 49ers defense that has allowed over 1,400 yards of offense and 10 touchdowns to opposing running backs. Over their last two games, they have allowed over 470 yards on the ground with four rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile a GPP type of play that we love this week is Mack who should see an increased work load going forward despite the Indianapolis Colts failing to find a trade partner for Frank Gore. Mackhas also seen his looks increase in the passing game over the past two weeks adding more value to his stock.
Other Top Running Back Options – Todd Gurley & Mark Ingram
Sleeper Options – Orleans Darkwa & Jonathan Stewart
Potential Bust – Ezekiel Elliott
Wide Receivers – Mike Evans, Julio Jones & Larry Fitzgerald
Now we could go many different options here but after the injury to Watson both Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins are too big of a gamble play for us with Tom Savage under center. Luckliy for us though after spending cheap at quarterback and running back, guys like Jones and Evans are easy options that we could afford. For me both Evans and Michael Thomas are near locks or guys you need to rotate in lineups as we expect to see a shootout in New Orleans. Jones meanwhile will continue to six a ton of targets the question mark is whether or not he can find the endzone for his second time this season. The last of our options we really like is Fitzgerald as we expect Stanton to turn to the veteran as a security blanket as he takes over at quarterback.
Other Top Wide Receiver Options – Michael Thomas & Michael Crabtree
Sleeper Options – Corey Davis, Kenny Stills & Willie Snead
Potential Bust – A.J. Green, Will Fuller & DeAndre Hopkins
Tight End – Jimmy Graham
We expect to see the tight end usage spread out around the NFL in Week 9 with Rob Gronkowski not available. This opens up the door for Graham who has seen at least five targets in five straight games while picking up touchdowns in three straight games. Add that with the fact the Washington Redskins have allowed the most receiving yards in the NFL to opposing tight ends makes him an even bigger option for us. You could consider Tyler Kroft as a gamble play or even O.J. Howard.
Other Top Tight End Options – Travis Kelce
Sleeper Option – Tyler Kroft & O.J. Howard
Potential Bust – Zach Ertz
Kicker – Wil Lutz
Lutz matches our criteria when looking to fill the kicker position. First he will get the advantage of playing in doors at home while avoiding any type of weather that might be thrown at other kickers around the league. Secondly, the Saints/Buccaneers matchup has the potential to be a high scoring contest with both teams having the ability to post 25-40 points this weekend opening up the door for Lutz to have a chance to put up some points.
Other Kicker Options – Matt Bryant & Justin Tucker
Defense – Los Angeles Rams
The money is there for us to use nearly any defense that is available during the NFL Schedule in Week 9. In the end, we like the idea of this matchup as the Giants continue to struggle on offense including at the wide receiver position. These struggles and the fact the Rams have been solid on defense makes them a solid option to build around this weekend after coming off back to back strong performances (17 & 22).
Other Defensive Options – Baltimore Ravens & Arizona Cardinals
Don’t forget to set your FanDuel Lineups today to take advantage of some great contests taking place in Week 9 including the $1.5M Sunday Million ($300k top prize).
