Strategies
The NBA Fantasy world can be a tricky place to live if you don’t take advantage of certain opportunities that arise. Many of the times, NBA Fantasy GMs are too afraid to risk trading for a player who is injured or perhaps having a down year.
According to us, trading buy-low candidates is one of the best ways to win in your league, whether it is roto or head-to-head. There are definitely quite a few players out there who are struggling this year that could potentially make a complete 180 to give you that boost you really need. The best part of this strategy is that you are essentially trading kibbles for a dog bone.
Players that you should target who are currently buy-low candidates are: Serge Ibaka, Kenneth Faried, Lance Stephenson, and Kawhi Leonard.
Serge Ibaka is having a very tough time producing his usual late first round, early second round value that we’re accustomed to. Ibaka doesn’t hurt you in many categories and can give you decent numbers for points, rebounds, fg%, ft%, steals, blocks, and turnovers. More recently, he has added a pretty reliable 3-point shot, but it may be the reason why he is struggling so much. You can definitely get away with trading away a 3rd or 4th rounder in exchange for Ibaka and hope for the best. If he can just cut down on his 3-point shooting and go more inside so that he can boost his efficiency, Ibaka will be a steal.
Kenneth Faried is also struggling to show his true potential. Part of the reason why he isn’t doing so well is that Coach Brian Shaw isn’t too fond of Faried so his minutes aren’t quite there yet. Given the minutes, the trust and the ball more will definitely allow Faried to be a monster in the game. He has the potential to put up 18-10-1-1 numbers if he really wanted to. There is also the possibility that he will get traded before the deadline and if he is traded to a team where his services are much needed, the sky is the limit for Faried.
Lance Stephenson is currently coming back from injury and his time at Charlotte definitely hasn’t been the smoothest. There are rumors that he is clashing with his teammates and that could be the reason why he isn’t producing those all around stats that we’re used to. He really isn’t meshing well with the system or his teammates, so a change in atmosphere would greatly benefit his performance. Stephenson is capable of producing close to a triple double on a nightly basis so trading low for this dude is definitely a plus. This is definitely a low risk, high reward type of deal considering that you’ll be able to trade a late rounder for his services.
Kawhi Leonard has had a tough a season to start. He came in with high hopes, but had a couple injuries that would hurt his performances in the NBA. Right now however, he is posting up great numbers and the window for buying low for Leonard is closing. Kawhi can literally give you stats all across the board without hurting you in any certain category. He is the future of the San Antonio Spurs so he is going to be able to produce some great stats for you. Trade for Kawhi if you’re in need of a sg,sf that you could trade a 4th or 5th rounder for. Kawhi will give you great fg%, ft%, a 3-pointer, rebounds, steals, blocks and a couple assists. Not bad right?
These are the 4 players you should target as buy-low candidates if you can.
